Queen Bee: Starry Night (2021) Review
Although listed as a 'single', this actually has three tracks to it. Much like with Mrs. Green Apple (and like, a lot of other bands), I love that their energy and vibes in the music has stayed pretty much consistent. I just really really love Queen Bee's music and honestly, just everything they do, and I love exploring new music, so I really liked listening to this album. I think they've got a great range of different feelings in their songs - and I love Avu's live performance energies as well, especially their amazing vocal range. So yeah, I really love Queen Bee.
Starry Night
I really love this song. The funky lil rewind, the clapping, the punchy melody line with the great falsetto hits and the DRUMS COMING IN ON THE CHORUS. Then the bass line under the chorus. and then the vocal flip down to 'yadoru' - THEN THE FADEAWAY AND THE VOCAL ONLY. THEN THE KEY CHANGE. then the slowed down ending with the piANO. look listen, i'm obsessed with this. I don't know what sort of musical ideas they're doing, but every time they just give me hit after hit and I live for it.
Flame
This is the song that I first came to know them for - from the Dororo OP and then the First Take cover (which is incredible and you have to check it out). By this point it actually has been in a few albums of theirs, but like, it's a fun song and it's a good song. This one is the acoustic version I believe - and they tend to like doing a few versions of their songs, which is fun. I think this one really showcases Avu's singing - but honestly all versions of this song are bangers.
Cosmo
Despite the long winded instrumental moments - this has a really nice build up. Its definitely not your typical pattern for a song but I like the yearning feeling in this song. Avu really uses the full extent of their falsetto range and the way they flip vocally is truly amazing and gorgeous - it feels like something from a movie i think. Anyway, I really like this song.
