winter 2024

i didn't watch a heap of these shows while they were airing but instead made an extra effort to clean up and catch up on some of the ones i didn't get a chance to check out while i was busy being fucking ill, but ended up finding some really fun watches.  Akuyaku Reijou Level 99: Watashi wa Ura-Boss desu ga Maou dewa Arimasen I've definitely been on the villainess train for a while, but this is another fun show - especially with the adjustments they made to the original source material to make it feel more cohesive. Having a really no nonsense protagonist who gives no fucks being female is extremely fun, and I found myself really enjoying this the more it went on. I liked it enough to peer into the LN but I found it a little too dense to really keep going with it, but from the r/anime comments, it seems that they did a lot in the anime to try to mend the bonds between yumelia and the heroine/trio which helps a lot in making it feel a little more cozy and fun as an all aroun...

fall 2023

okay i did actually finish this but never got around to writing my thoughts because im an idiot. so here we go.  Sousou no Frieren  two tier. it's finished now (this is the first cour season) but it was really good - really takes the original material and elevates it to the next level with immersive animation, great music and voice acting. really bad-ass, and i wish i had binge watched the anime instead of rushing ahead with the manga. it's obviously very successful and popular now, so you dont need me to recommend it to you.  Kamonohashi Ron no Kindan Suiri you know this was kinda fun. another one which i picked up the manga of (i just couldnt be bothered to wait for a lot of the shows this season for some reason), and i really enjoyed myself for what it was. it's not ground breaking but it is good enough as a fun lil watch with some sherlock bbc level 'detective' play. compelling enough that i wanna keep watching for sure.  Shangri-La Frontier: Kusoge Hunter, Kami...

summer 2023

i had fun this season, it definitely wasn't stacked with standouts by any means but I can't deny that it was ok for what it was.  Bungou Stray Dogs 5th Season  oh my GOD cmon. listen, my general rule of thumb is always, if you enjoyed the first season you'll enjoy whatever sequel is being pumped out cause most anime tends to be relatively consistent, but this is the first time i've watched something for long enough to actually see it completely reinvent itself so much that I went from feeling incredibly apathetic to being hyped as fuck for it. BSD, up until season 4 had been pretty much a fujo bait write off for me, but it definitely reminds me of K in the way that like, they really end up finding themselves and their writing and getting into a good groove with what they want to say with the story, and like, while the 4th season probably has the strongest opening and a strong arc, 5 keeps the excitement and tension up and carries it over. although this season definitely...

spring 2023

a much needed and anticipated yet poorly planned out review. i originally was following a few shows that i ended up dropping because most of them were honestly terrible and not worth continuing, but i also ended up catching up and binge watching a few that slipped through my radar the first time. all in all a pretty tumultuous season but despite slacking on my videos, im trying to find the time and energy to keep up with the written bits.  Jigokuraku  I mean, despite its heaviness, I ended up really enjoying this show. it's not one i'd usually pick for myself but i was pleasantly surprised by how much i enjoyed it - especially with its pseudo religious aesthetics. the premise of the show is a little bit 'death game'y, but i think MAPPA really put a lot of care into the pacing and delivery of the story - which is of course complimented by the actual story itself being really great. after i finished watching this, i ended up finishing the manga. i genuinely think this sh...

winter 2023

Okay I actually am trying to follow up on all the shows I've seen because I'm trying to be a better person I swear. I did some of the recording for my videos before i finished writing any of these so this is not gonna map on super well, but here it is.  Completed  Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu. 2 this is one of those shows i retroactively picked up after being told it was a fucking isekai only to find out i was lied to lol - i thought it was legitimately about a girl being a shield hero like tate no yuusha, but no its just a girl playing a MMORPG with her friends with VR tech and she just happens to be overpowered as fuck due to plot armor (no pun intended). i mean this is pretty much the thing i say when im like, if you liked the first season you'll like more of this, it doesnt get any worse but it sure doesnt get any better but it's enough when you're sad and bored. if you like cute girls being fucking stupid with only a vague ...

fall 2022

A weirdly productive season in the sense that I didn't have that much to do and therefore ended up just binge watching literally everything for no reason. (but never ended up finishing write ups).  Completed Noumin Kanren no Skill bakka Agetetara Nazeka Tsuyoku Natta. I can't say this was a particularly good or a bad show - I'd probably rate this more on the side of meh, but I think there were definitely fun or good things about this show. There are some good moments that really hint towards like, world building in this show but it's done only very occasionally and then it's not really touched on again later, which is a bit of a let down. Enoki Junya does a great job of being an endearing MC as usual, but the actual characters in the show aren't super likeable and don't get a lot of actual development. I am somewhat interested (as the source material is actually already finished but not translated) as to what actually happens in regards to the broader ideas ...
