some music i liked this year

honestly i have to admit - writing about albums is fun but also kinda difficult when you're kinda just covering one artist with a lot of similar things. so i thought i'd just throw in some love for some artists/bands and albums that i've discovered recently. thank you to apple music, it's now really easy for me to find new songs and just download full albums, so it's made exploring music far easier as well.  i realized i tend to have a few 'go to' types of music i like, but i think you can decide for yourself what type of things i gravitate towards.  summer walker - over it (2020)  i listened to her music for a month straight - i just love it. her voice is gorgeous. and her songs just have this beautiful self love, heart break, feeling myself kinda vibe. over it is probably my favorite albu, and its also the most complete one. i like off of you, body, session 32, come thru - although all of the songs in the album just have ~ a vibe~ which i love. this was a ...

Queen Bee: Starry Night (2021) Review

Although listed as a 'single', this actually has three tracks to it. Much like with Mrs. Green Apple (and like, a lot of other bands), I love that their energy and vibes in the music has stayed pretty much consistent. I just really really love Queen Bee's music and honestly, just everything they do, and I love exploring new music, so I really liked listening to this album. I think they've got a great range of different feelings in their songs - and I love Avu's live performance energies as well, especially their amazing vocal range. So yeah, I really love Queen Bee.  Starry Night  I really love this song. The funky lil rewind, the clapping, the punchy melody line with the great falsetto hits and the DRUMS COMING IN ON THE CHORUS. Then the bass line under the chorus. and then the vocal flip down to 'yadoru' - THEN THE FADEAWAY AND THE VOCAL ONLY. THEN THE KEY CHANGE. then the slowed down ending with the piANO. look listen, i'm obsessed with this. I don...

Deco*27: Aimai Elegy (2010) Review

This is one of the first Vocaloid albums that I listened to, and honestly, one of the best (probably a biased view but hey, what are reviews for?). This is what cemented my love for listening to whole albums as a really thematically connected piece - especially when they blend together. It's been almost 11 years since this album was released, but whenever I come back to this, I still love it.  1. entree A great acoustic, soft introduction to the theme of this album. This is the prelude to the next song, and it just works so well. One of my faves even as a standalone, but its perfect as a prelude too.  2. モザイクロール / Mozaik Role - marina What a fucking BOP this is - the way entree just bleeds into this song. I love the rawness of Marina's vocal, and the melody of this is great with the guitar just going off in the back. Fantastic. Love this.  3. ショコラビーツ / Chocolate Beats - Hatsune Miku Great tune. Real catchy. Love it. It's Hatsune Miku. All great things. 4. トリ...

Doja Cat: Planet Her (2021) Review

This is probably the first Doja Cat album I've listened to in full - I think overall I wasn't sure what exactly to expect stylistically, but after a few listens, I think I really came to love this album. It wasn't what I expected from her previous music, but I like that there's an artistic freedom here. (and yes, I am that person who reviews albums now.)  Woman  Someone pointed out that this song has a real Jidenna vibe and I definitely agree - it's a kinda laid back vibe with a great beat. I like this - I'm not sure I would have chosen this to be the first song of the album but it's definitely a kinda song I could imagine playing in the background at a high class bar. I like this.  Naked I love this song - it's hella catchy. The melody and the beat of this slaps so hard, and my favorite line of this "follow me to ya dressing room, let me know if you ain't got that NSFW".  What a fucking great line. Also the prechorus chord progression is ...
