the umbrella academy season 2 review

alright lets crack right on with this.  first impressions of the season - a lot more fun than s1. i love a more light hearted watch and while this deals (still) with the apocalypse, it's not as droll and slow paced as s1. while s1 often left a lot of the established tension slack, choosing to dip its toes in other pools while trying to establish the severity of impending end of the world, s2 leisurely takes its time a little more because you don't know exactly what happens.  i have to say, overall, s2 did a lot of stuff better - but mostly the comedy and the more fun aspects. while you can see steve blackman clearly try to recreate those dance scenes that were so well received in s1, i can't help but feel that they felt so much more hamfisted in this season especially because he knew that they were big talking points of the show. these ones i felt myself just glazing over.  with the subplots - i enjoyed allison and her husband's civil rights movement a lot, and it was a...

the umbrella academy season 1 review

well okay so, listen, i like gerard way but i'm not like, that big a fan that i read the comics (although i had a friend who did) but anyway i had no intention of watching this until i had nothing else to do (lockdown, you know how it is) so like, here is my review. so the umbrella academy - loosely - is about some miracle babies with superpowers, who reunite after the death of their 'father', and have to stop the impending apocalypse. feature, time travel, superpowers and general fuckery. for me, this show reminds me a LOT of Legion (from FX), and it turns out that the creator of Umbrella Academy, Steve Blackman, was actually an executive producer and showrunner on Legion, and also hired Jeff Russo for the soundtrack for TUA, who was also the composer for Legion, and Craig Wrobleski with the cinematography. In a lot of ways, this is sort of like, Legion if it was marketed a little more towards the masses, which is a little more digestable. while it lacks the creativi...

spring 2020 review

so while the original line up of shows would have been a bit longer, who had any idea that covid was gonna swoop in and cancel not only a few sequels, but the tokyo olympics. anyway, let's just crack on here. i also wanna note that the ratings of these are not super objective reflections of the actual quality of the show, but rather my own personal preference in how much i enjoyed watching it -which, the older i get, seems to be just, anything that puts me in a good mood, so like, the ratings are biased af dont @ me completed: Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai?: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen - part two of the now, very popular, love is war series. for me, I enjoyed this on the whole, although i have to say, it is a little different from the first season, which I must admit, i preferred. S1 definitely got me full on laughing, cackling and slapping my thighs, but the most S2 got out of me was a few loud cackles because of the different focus. in fact, it almost feels like a different...
