spring 19 anime
finished:
midara no ao chan wa benkyou ga denkinai-
ecchi comedy romance, super cute and consistent. if you like lewd humor, there's a little love story at the end which is just tinged with a bit too much NSFW to be a relaxing watch. that said, it's really a lovely and solid short that i wanted to keep reading - and the manga isn't up to date either so this was great to watch.
senryuu shoujo-
SFW high school sweethearts romance, the main dude is a soft hearted but scary looking dude, and the main girl is a lovely sweet poem writing cutie. follows the main romance with little side detours but i really liked this. i wish it was a lot longer, because it gave me soft and tender feels. 9/10 tbh. want more.
isekai quartet-
if you like the OG content, you'll enjoy this. also newcomers! season 2! not much to say, since this is established content.
Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai -
this season, nobody is studying lmao. this is nice, you get on the meme train for this harem shit, but i really do like moments where they allow the characters to mature - esp with blue hair girl being a mediator for feelings because she understands people. nice touch.
joshikausei -
this is a short, kinda like a chaotic daily life of high school boys thing. it was interesting but at 3 minutes x 12 episodes, you're only really getting like, 1/2 episodes worth of actual content.
mayonaka no occult koumin-
i really liked this! this wasn't anything like the first episode because it was more dumping us in the action instead of info dumping, which i kinda liked, but at the end leaves you a little high and dry because without the info dumping you never quite know where you stand with the content. the actual show was super interesting, talking about different gods and spirits and how people resolved those issues. i saw this get a lot of hate on the anicoms but tbh i really enjoyed this and didn'te ven mind that it ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, becuase this show very evidently points to a world outside of what you get presented with, and i think in itself it was a nice way to resolve the show. it's not the best independent creative material, but it's definitely got the more itneresting approach to plot and world building that a lot of other shows which lifts its score a bit.
sewayaki kitsune no senko-san - fuwa fuwa. i think it really picked up about 4-5 episodes in, and i don't really have THAT much of a feeling on this show besides the fact that i tried to write an entire article disproving another dude's point about how it is an inferior version of dragon maid. i think it had a good ending and a solid wrap up, but the bits of early ecchi were a bit of a turn off/can't really call it 'comforting' or PG, and i wish they'd stuck to a more relaxing version of the show instead of the faux sexualization that they never really settled on with the two mains.
kenja no majo-
NOT a harem fantasy weirdly enough but a lovely OP MC as always. i love me some shit isekais and this definitely filled my little shitty heart. people compalined that this show never really knew if it wanted to be serious or more of an action show, but to be honest i felt that the tone was consistent within itself, sort of like a marvel show where you have moments where they want to be funny but also are like, we're silly people stuck in a bad situation and don't know what to do. the humor never feels overly forced because they do seem like actual high schoolers ? so i don't have a. problem with the show in that sense, but YMMV. there's more content, but i dont think i'd follow it, but it's solid. 6/10.
OPM2 -
if you liked OPM1... if you like the show, this might be fine. it's a half decent adaptation of the source material, but it feels like a cheap and unthought out process of the actual story rather than the better season 1 in which everything seemed tighter and better planned. but if you like it, you like it. this was contreversial in the subs tho, because it simply wasn't on the same 'level' as S1.
unfinished:
shoumetsu toshi - not as good as caligula, bad ending from what i. saw. couldn't finish because it just seemed like it wasn't going anywhere.
sarazanmai- not that this is bad, i actually really do want to finish this, and it gets weirdly dark because someone's drug dealing brother dies as well. it is a. bit of a strenuous watch, so i think i'm going to. stack this one.
nobunaga sensei no osanazuma - this leaned a bit too trashy, even for me. it was just dull and the. humor wasn't great, so dropped.
hitoribocchi no OO seikatsu-
uhhh idk some people liked this. but tbh it wasn't my scthick. i don't like comic girls/cute girls doing cute things because i find it boring, and i knew i would drop it because it just asn't funny enough to keep me interested, and 'cute' doesn't really do it for me. i like comforting, but this is just banal to me.
ongoing:
carole and tuesday- very interesting, super westernized too. the music is fucking brilliant, and there's something very different and unique from this show that is at odds with a lot of other anime you. see. very special. i can't wait to see how. this show ends. watch this ASAP.
kono oto tomare-
yeah a. litlte bit. of a chihayafuru. it's like, just characters kinda being mature, figuring out their emotions, working through issues with each other and strumming out tunes on the koto. i really like this, it's pretty solid. not unique but it's just a good watch. very shoujo, but its not a bad show.
fruits basket -
i'm not used to having such actual dark shoujo stuff, it's a type of SOL show which hasn't been sanitized and touches on some abuse/trauma that i think is really a bit at odds with the sort of love story that they're telling. this adaptation is a full and faithful one to the manga, so if youve read the original you will definitely appreciate this, and because it's going to be like 64 episodes, this is probs all i'll say on it because i may get bored and drop it because of how long itll take for me to follow. i would rec it tho, it makes me cry so much.
