Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo ep 4

this is the first time im going to be blogging about o maidens in your savage season, but it's one that i really wanted to mention because it's honestly one of the best shows with coming of age topics that i've seen (a gratuitous mention for kuzu no honkai, and tsuki ga kirei)

while i can go on about how relevant and lovely kuzu no honkai was for me at the time it came out, o maidens in your savage season is definitely a more relatable premise.

based off the literature club, a group of girls, onodera, sugawara, sudo, hongo and sonezaki all who go through different individual problems surrounding the issue of sex - which honestly as someone who went to an all girls school with a bunch of hilariously idiotic classmates when we were still all fixated on stupid sex jokes, this is such a relatable premise to me.
to be honest, especially as someone who is asexual and has often spent a lot of time wondering why i just kinda never really 'got' relationships the same way everyone else did, this show really intertwines the idea between sex and love, and the slow exploration through confusing puberty while being super curious about the idea of sex, yet never having any desire for it- this is such an interesting insight, and one that does it really well.

the most recent episode touches on also, the dynamics that develop between izumi and sugawara, sudo's budding interest in girls - specifically sugawara, touches on the almost pedophilic relationship between sugawara and her previous director, and touches on hongo's illicit relationship between her and milo sensei, all which honestly, has 100% happened in girls schools, but what really tickled me was sonezaki's wholesome relationship between her classmate - who asks her out.

while i have yet to see confirmation of sonezaki being ace - although i really desperately hope she is - the earlier moments of her avid interest in its theoretical aspects yet blatant embarrassment at the mere suggestion of it being turned back on her has honestly given me the warmest feelings of - just the most relatable approach to sex and relationships that i've ever been able to see on a screen, one which very closely echoes my own feelings during high school.

for me, this show is a depiction of me and my classmates, i've known girls who have been through facets of these experiences, grappled with their own sexual desire, struggled through problems of being attracted to other girls, experimented, and shown a stupidly earnest approach to sex that i remember with amazing fondness - all with beautiful soft animation and charming music.

treat yourself and check this series out, because this calls to my cold old heart like a siren to a sailor.
